11 Games To Decide Forest Destiny

The very impressive 36 game unbeaten run at home in the league finally came to an end yesterday, when Forest lost 1-0 to Hull City at the City Ground. You have to go all the way back to September 19, 2009 to find the last time the Reds’ were beaten on their home turf and that was another 1-0 defeat, against Blackpool, the side that would eventually go on to beat us in the Playoffs and also go onto to win promotion to the Prem.

Despite the apparent doom and gloom that has swept over us following this latest set back, we can at least take some small crumb of comfort from the fact that our fate lies in our own hands, we still have 11 games left to play and thanks to someone upstairs smiling on us regards results elsewhere yesterday, we do still sit remarkably well placed in the table and with more than a fair shout of claiming that elusive 2nd promotion spot.

Without wanting to state the bleedin` obvious, it`s our current form that has seen us slip from 2nd in the table, down to 5th. It was only 3 short weeks ago that Forest were officially the form team in the division and in such a rich vein of form that justifiably had us down as every bodies favourites for promotion. Since then, we`ve dramatically slipped from the top of the form table and down to 15th and all in the space of 6 games. The cold hard facts are that in those last 6 games, Forest have won 1, drawn 3 and lost 2. Therein lies the problem that needs to be addressed by Billy Davies and his coaching staff. We all know that a couple of signings would make life so much easier, but it doesn`t look as though Mr. Davies will be getting any support from the board on that front.

The Gods` did smile on us yesterday, with only Leeds and leaders QPR getting wins for those in the top 6. Swansea and Cardiff thankfully lost and Norwich could only manage a draw. Those results mean that we are still firmly in the mix and have as good a chance of any to claim that 2nd spot. To do that though, we need to get back to winning ways and we get the chance to do that on Wednesday night when we travel to the Blunts. The Blades are in a right old state at the moment and not only sit bottom of the Championship table, but rock bottom of the form table too. A win over them at Bramall Lane on Tuesday night and we could all be in a much better mood come Wednesday morning. There are still 11 games to play, with 5 of them at home and we do have the best manager in the division to help us get there. It ‘aint over yet folks….not by a long way!
