0 Forest appearances, 3 loans in 2 years, is 21-year-old finished at the City Ground?

Port Vale confirmed on Monday that they’d signed Nottingham Forest defender Adam Crookes on loan until the end of the season. The 21-year-old has yet to make a first-team appearance for the Reds since rising through the youth ranks and has instead been loaned out three times in two years.

Forest signed Sam Byram and Saidy Janko on loan to provide cover at right-back, completely overlooking Crookes in the reserves, which suggests his time at the City Ground could be up next summer. Jack Robinson and Danny Fox were ahead of him in the left-back pecking order too. His contract with Forest expires at the end of the season.

After moving up from the u18s to the u23s in 2016, Crookes, was loaned out to Guiseley (December 15, 2017 – January 15, 2018). He joined Lincoln (August 2, 2018 – January 13, 2019) the following campaign and was shipped out to Vale just a day after returning from his latest stint away.

Crookes never featured under Aitor Karanka, but new manager Martin O’Neill won’t be able to get a look at him now either. The defender won’t return until the summer and could find himself out of contract in the process. It might be the end for Crookes unless he shines on loan at League Two Vale.
